    My office is having a sunflower-growing contest, and I am now the proud owner of a four-inch sapling. The trouble is I have no idea how to look after it. It will need to be grown indoors until it’s too big to be eaten by squirrels. I have a nice sunny south-facing window. I know it will need a bigger pot but how big will it need? How much water? Do I need plant food of some sort to add to the compost? I seem to recall reading that used coffee grinds are good for roses, do they help other plants too? I’m not expecting to win the contest at all, I just don’t want to kill it…

    My firm has a letterhead template in a Word picture image and pdf format. I'd like to be able to use that with Wordperfect X4 so I can type directly on/into it. Is this possible? Alternatively, can I "print" a Wordperfect file onto a letterhead template in pdf?I love Wordperfect and hate Microsoft Word. The primary reason for this view is that Word does formatting things to me sometimes and I cannot figure it out. Like I might have a weird page break or something.     Besides Central Americans, what are other countries that have major first-generation diaspora communities in the United States? India? Armenia? Cambodia? Other Asian countries? Just wild guesses here.I live in an area where there are many communities of people from other countries. Nationwide, I'm wondering what other countries are supplying our diaspora communities. I'm not interested in Central Americans although I would like to know if there's a table buried in Wikipedia or US Census data that compares these populations.

    I have long noticed that most recipes that include oven use call for a temp setting of 350 or 425. Less frequently one calls for a setting of 325, 375, 400, or 450. Two questions: a) Why the dominance of 350 and 425, and b) why don't any recipes ever call for temps of, say, 385 or 413?Re question b), have there not been any cooking experiments with such nuanced differences in oven temperature? Is it that the differences in effect on food of oven settings more precise than 25-degree increments are already known to be undetectable?

    I usually show this card trick as a "magic trick" to my daughter. It has worked for me all the time - I could never sit down and work out the odds though. I read somewhere that the odds are very high for the trick to work. Maybe someone can do the math and tell me exactly what are the odds for it to work.
